Lima Stool

2011

Fab Lab Lima

In August 2011 I travelled to Lima, Peru for the annual Fab Lab conference, Fab 7.

Whilst there I saw some foldable steps in a hardware shop, and thought it would translate well to a high stool, or side-table, which could be CNC cut and slot together in assembly.

I collaborated with Natalie Haddad from MakeLab, and the design was completed in a couple of hours. We translated the steel joint of the orginal steps into a pocketed hinge that sat in the frame of the stool. It was cut and assembled the next day, and we found some hardware sitting on a table.

A quick, fun project that illustrated the power of the Fab Lab and digital fabrication to turn ideas into objects in a matter of hours. We now aim to refine the design and release it as an open project.
